Preserving Memories in Resin: Our Flower Preservation Journey

At Hyacinth, every step of our journey has been an experiment. A mix of trial and error, creativity, and heart. What began as a handmade hustle slowly turned into a fully-fledged business. Along the way, we found ourselves constantly curious and eager to explore new realms of resin art.

One of the most rewarding experiments we’ve embarked on is flower preservation. What started as a creative idea quickly became an obsession and a labor of love.

Expanding into flower preservation felt like a natural next step. But despite years of experience with resin, I wasn’t fully prepared for how intricate and unpredictable this process would be. Videos made it look simple: pour resin over a flower, and it’s done. In reality? It was anything but.

The research and development took months. Finding the right materials and equipment to understanding the perfect temperature, and handling everything mattered. Even the tiniest detail could change the outcome.

I began by learning how to dry the flowers. Using silica gel, I experimented with different blooms and their drying times. Some were absolute divas, needing a full week of attention. Others dried fast but lost their color, like they’d given up on life altogether. This drying process was delicate and emotional, honestly. I started naming the flowers at one point (don’t ask). That week-long process taught me patience and precision.

Once dried, the next challenge was arranging them in a layout that didn’t scream Pinterest fail. Pouring the resin came next, This should’ve been the easy part, right?

Wrong. Even the clearest, low-bubble resin couldn’t save us from the wrath of microbubbles. They showed up like uninvited guests at a party, small, persistent, and completely ruining the vibe.

After countless attempts (and late nights on YouTube University), we invested in a vacuum chamber, a total game changer. With every new try, we got better. Slowly, what once felt impossible started turning into something beautiful.

Then came our first real order.

Yes, someone was going to pay us to preserve their special flowers - no pressure at all.

I reminded the team (only half-jokingly), “Handle this like your life depends on it. Clients can call the cops if we mess this up.”

They laughed nervously. I laughed, too, but, you know, nervously.

That order? It turned out beautifully. We were over the moon. It felt like someone had trusted us with a piece of their heart - and we honored that.

Fast forward 8–9 months, and we’ve done many more. While we’ve had a few “oops” moments along the way, overall, it’s been an incredibly fulfilling journey.

There’s something magical about literally keeping flowers alive, holding nature in our studio, breathing life into a dead plant, and capturing emotion, memory, and meaning in a little frame. These pieces go into homes and become part of someone’s everyday life.

Every time we hand one over, we’re reminded that this handcrafted journey, though chaotic and experimental - is also powerful, poetic, and deeply human.
